Half Note and Half Rest Students will demonstrate in a variety of ways (voice, instruments, reading music, listening to music) a note that is TWO beats long in sound or silence. Whole Note and Whole Rest Students will demonstrate in a variety of ways (voice, instruments, reading, listening and moving to music) a note that is FOUR beats long in sound or silence. Instrumental
Broken Bordun Students will accompany a song with the tonic and dominant of the chord. Alternating hands (notes). |
Melodic
Do Students will demonstrate in a variety of ways the concept of Do. Students will be able to read patterns and perform them using their voice or an instrument. Do is a sound lower than Mi. There is a skip between Mi and Do. A lot of music is built around this tonal center. Re Students will demonstrate in a variety of ways the concept of Re. Students will be able to read patterns and perform them using their voice or an instrument. Re is a note between Mi and Do. Lower than Mi but higher than Do. Re can be a passing tone, a cadence note or it can be approached by a skip. |
Form
Canon Is a musical composition, in which a minimum of three voices sing exactly the same melody at the unison (and may continue repeating it indefinitely), but with each voice beginning at different times so that different parts of the melody coincide in the different voices, but nevertheless fit harmoniously together. Two Ostinati An ostinato is a short, repeated melodic or rhythmic pattern underneath a melody. Students will be able to participate in a ensemble that is performing two ostinati using their voice, instrument or body percussion at one time.. |
